II Birdwatching Meeting in the Azores

Rarely occurring avifauna species in the Azores
Article 1 - Objectives
The objectives of the Regional Tourism Association for this photograph contest are the encouragement of
the photographic art, the promotion of new talents and the creation of a spot to market the importance of
the Azores as a destination for observing avifauna species.
Article 2 - Scope and Applicability
This contest, with two categories of participants, is part of the program of the 2nd Birdwatching Meeting in
the Azores that will take place from 31st October to 4th November at Praia da Vitória.
a) Residents of the Autonomous Region of the Azores
b) Non-residents of the Autonomous Region of the Azores
Article 3 - Theme
All contest entries should be on the theme Rarely occurring avifauna species in the Azores.
All species that are not on the common or regular species of birds list in the Azores will be considered. The
list can be viewed on the website Birdingazores with the address
Article 4 - Entry presentation
a) Contestants can enter up to three photographs with the theme: Rarely occurring avifauna species in
b) The photographs should be sent to the contest office at the email address
firstname.lastname@example.org in JPG format with the photographer's name, the common and
scientific names of the species and the location where the bird was photographed.
c) The photographer must indicate which category the photographs are being entered in, in
accordance with Article 2, and provide proof of his/her address.
d) The photographs must be taken in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, including the maritime
area of 200 nautical miles.
e) The photographer must send a signed declaration with the text in Annex 1 stating that they agree
that the photographs entered in the contest can be used in an exhibit that will travel around the
Azores, with credit to the 2nd Birdwatching Meeting in the Azores and the photographers and by the
Azores Tourism, with credit given to the photographer, for not-for-profit marketing.
f) Entries in the contest are free of charge.
Article 5 – Delivery of photos
a) Photographs must be submitted by 1th November 2012 by 18:00 PM (local time in the Azores) to the

Article 6 - Jury
a) The jury is made up of three people in the areas of ornithology and photography.
b) The jury is responsible for defining the criteria for the evaluation of the entries.
c) The jury will have a deadline of the 2nd November 2012 for selecting the winners.
d) The jury's decision is final and irrevocable.
Article 7 - Awards
a) The jury reserves the right to exclude contest entries that do not adhere to the aforementioned
b) Among all the entries, there can only be one winner in each category.
c) The winner in the Residents category will receive birdwatching equipment or a gift certificate for the
purchase of equipment.
d) The winner in the Non-residents category will receive a trip to the Azores.
e) The jury can, if they wish, award honourable mentions.
Article 8 - Location and date for the exhibition of the entries
The photographs will be displayed during the awards ceremony in the 2nd Birdwatching Meeting in the
Azores on 3rd November 2012.
The jury will select a group of photographs for an exhibit that will travel around the Azores, with credit to
the 2nd Birdwatching Meeting in the Azores and the photographers.
Article 9 - Final provisions
Participation in this contest implies consent to these regulations.
